Thara Sahib is situated to the north of Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar. When ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadar Ji came from Baba Bakala to pay his respect to Darbar Sahib after his announcement as the next Guru, he rested at Thara Sahib. To safe guard their vested interests the custodians of Harmandir Sahib closed the doors on the Guru. Thara Sahib is the place where Guru Ji took rest when mahants had barred his entry into Harmandir Sahib. Guru Amar Das Ji who was the third Sikh Guru also used to rest and mediate at this place after doing ‘Sewa’.
