Ber Baba Buddha is a historic Beri-(Jujube) tree in the outer Parikarma of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Baba Buddha Ji camped beneath this tree (Beri) to perform the service of digging the holy tank and to supervise the construction work of Sri Harimandir Sahib. Baba Buddha (whose original name was Bura) was born in October 1506 in village Kathu Nangal of District Amritsar. He had spiritual bent of mind from his childhood. Once Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was returning to Kartarpur, the boy Bura while grazing his cattle near village Ramdas saw Guru ji and presented him with milk with great reverence. While discussing with Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the boy Bura asked many deep questions about God and life and death. Guru Nanak Dev Ji found him wiser then his age and called him Buddha (the old one). Since then Bura came to be called as Baba Buddha. He served Guru Ghar with dedication upto the period of 6th Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib and performed ceremonies of five Gurus, from Guru Angad Dev ji to Guru Hargobind Sahib. When Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji compiled the Guru Granth Sahib and installed it in Sir Harmandir Sahib, Baba Buddha Ji was appointed as the first Granthi (the holy Granth reciter) in 1604 AD. The honour and regard of Baba Buddha ji in the Sikh community can be adjudged from the fact that Guru Hargobind Sahib himself performed the last ceremonies of Baba Buddha Ji. Paying tribute to his commendable services, a Gurdwara sahib has been built just near to this historic Beri.
