Laachi Ber, a beautiful Gurdwara under the shadow of Ber-(Jujube fruit) tree bearing small berries of cardamom-(lachi) size, is the reason it is known as Gurdwara Lachi Ber. This is the place where the fifth Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji used to sit and supervise the excavation of nectar pond, the sacred sarovar. A devout Sikh of the Guru Sahib, Bhai Salo Ji also participated in the voluntary excavation work in the year 1577. It stands next to Darshan Deori (entrance to Sri Harmandir Sahib.) In 1740 A.D. Harmandir Sahib was demolished and occupied by a prominent chief of the area Massa Ranghar, who started desecrating Harmandir Sahib, watched dances and consumed wine. Two Sikh warriors Sukha Singh Marhi Kamboke and Mehtab Singh MiranKot. They reached Harmandir Sahib posing as farmers to pay tax to Massa Ranghar. They tied their horses with this Ber- (jujube) and smartly killed Massa Ranghar and moved back having his head hanging on the spear. In this way they took revenge from Massa Ranghar for degrading the image of Golden Temple.
