Chitta Akhara was established in 1781. It is also known as Ganga Ram Akhara after the name of its founder. It is included in the Amritsar Heritage Walk places. This place is known for its wall paintings. The wall paintings at Chitta Akhara are pretty ornate. A uniform burgundy background had been applied throughout, with beautiful paintings painted on. Although the writings are all in the local Punjabi dialect, however, the miniature paintings bear Sikh, Hindu and Rajasthan based themes. In fact, due to the style of the painting, the entire complex has Rajasthani appearance.
