The first Taksal of Punjab was started at Guru Bazaar Amritsar during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. One of his jamadars used to supply different metals and shops in this area would convert them into different coins. Copper coins (siqquafalus) and silver coins were minted here with the inscription Zarab Sri Amritsar/Ambarsar (Minted at Amritsar)
