Partition Museum, as the name suggests, tells us about the history of the partition; what, people went through during this unexpected and unimagined division of a country into two countries India and Pakistan. Here, at this Museum, there are 14 galleries that introduce us with our dreadful past and a rich Punjabi culture of the old Punjab. This site has preserved the heart pinching memories that take us to the flashback of 1947, when the last Viceroy, Lord Louis Mountbatten announced the Partition Plan on 3 June 1947 deciding the fate of the Punjab and dividing it into West Punjab and East Punjab. Millions of people including Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims were killed in the merciless and inhuman riots that followed the partition. This was the most violent act in the history of humanity. More than million people lost their properties and became homeless called “refugees”. The site is well organized and designed with modern architecture. It has fourteen galleries, and each gallery shows the beautiful art and crafts related to the Punjab before partition. It takes you to the undivided, colourful and rich heritage of the Punjab and how the division took lives of millions of innocent people and forced migrations on many millions. Town Hall The Town Hall in Amritsar, venue of the Partition Museum is a gracious late-19 century building that stood witness to the disturbances in the Punjab after the Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre and the Partition.
