Jallianwala Bagh, a historic garden that has preserved the memory of that tragic massacre which took place on the Vaisakhi festival of 13th of April 1919. General R.E.H. Dyer had ordered to fire on the crowd of 15,000 unarmed and innocent people, who had gathered in Jalliawala Bagh after their visit to Darbar Sahib and some to protest against the deportation of Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew and Dr. Satyapal. There was a mix of speakers, listeners, and picnic makers and men, women and children of all ages, including Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims. General Dyer was misinformed that crowd violated the prohibition rules. Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden of about 6.27 acres with five entrances. In the center of the garden, there is ‘Samadhi’ built in the memory of those innocent people, who were killed with the bullets of General Dyer and his troops.
The monument and the walls of the internal building exhibit the bullet marks and the well that engulfed the innocents who jumped into it to save themselves and their kids. Even today, this Museum spills over the tears of those innocents who were wounded and killed in the massacre. Shaheed Udham Singh, at the age of 12-13 years, witnessed the whole tragedy, and later on, very courageously killed the Michael Francis O'Dwyer and took the revenge of this cruel massacre.
