It took more than four decades to set up a statue in Amritsar to honour the man who was a hero to avenge the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh. On 31 July 1940, Shaheed Udham Singh was hanged in London for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer, Punjab's Lieutenant Governor during the 1919 shooting of the Jallianwala Bagh. The first statue was placed in 1990 at Hall Gate. Jallianwala Bagh got Shaheed Udham Singh statue in the year 2019 during Baisakhi, making it two for the city that suffered the horrific massacre.
