The Kartarpur corridor is a visa-free border crossing and a safe corridor that links the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Pakistan to India. The crossing allows Indian Sikh devotees to visit the Kartarpur Gurdwara, 4.7 kilometers (2.9 miles) from the border between India and Pakistan without the need for a visa, thus establishing a bridge for pilgrims with Indian passports to easily access both the Kartarpur Shrine and Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak on the Indian side of the border. The foundation stone was laid on the Indian side on 26 November 2018. The Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan did the same for the Pakistani side two days later, on 28 November 2018. The corridor was opened on 12 November 2019, on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th birthday.
