Gurdwara Guru Ke Mehal is a sacred site in the Amritsar City, located near to Sri Harmandir Sahib. It is the place where Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Guru Hargobind Sahib and their families have stayed for almost 58 years. Guru Ramdas Ji founded the city and named it ‘Ramdaspur’ and began excavation of Amrit Sarovar-(Holy Pond), Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji got married here and was blessed as the 5th Guru and Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib was also married here at this holy place. This holy shrine is also famous for being the birth place of Baba Suraj Mall ji, Baba Aanhi Rai ji, Baba Atal Rai Ji, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and Bibi Veero ji. This is the reason, Gurdwara Guru Ke Mehal hold great importance in Sikhism. Up till mid 20th century, the residential complex of Gurdwara Sahib was very small and narrow, but with the devotional effort of Kar Seva Dera Anandpur Sahib, almost 91 buildings of surrounding area were purchased and the complex Guru Ke Mehal has been expanded and beautified.
